Amy Hampson
Amy is an art instructor and punched tin/assemblage artist known for her playful nature and use of found objects. Each piece she creates is unique with an eye toward composition and the finished product. Assemblages are made of wood, paint, paper ephemera, found objects and her own handcrafted metal elements. Vintage tins are sometimes used for their nostalgic, pop art appeal. Amy is a Seattle native and has studied with artisans throughout the southwestern United States and Mexico. She is inspired by the vibrancy, energy and warmth of traditional folk art from cultures around the world.
“I love the simplicity and beauty of folk art! It expresses so much while remaining accessible for everyone to make and enjoy. I hope the lively color, texture, pattern and whimsy draw you in and leave you with a feeling of delightful reflection. As I work, a word or phrase often emerges that tells the story and finds its way into my finished piece. I love the spark of joy that comes from creative discovery and I try to convey that in my art.”
